Spring Cleaning With No Back Pain

Joyce Zuniega • April 17, 2024

Spring is here, and you know what that means - it’s time for some spring cleaning!

Before you start, let's talk about how we can do it without ending up with a sore and achy back. We’ve got some tips and tricks to share that will make your spring cleaning painless! In this blog post we will explore how you can achieve a sparkling clean house while also saving your back from pain.

A Few Tips to Keep in Mind:

Tip #1: Use ergonomic tools

Investing in proper tools for cleaning is a game-changer. Whether that be tools with long handles or adjustable heights, it will reduce the strain on your body. For example, a mop or vacuum with adjustable heights will allow you to maintain an upright posture

Tip 2: Mind your posture

Whether you’re scrubbing the floors or wiping down surfaces, pay attention to your posture. Stand up straight, engage core muscles and avoid hunching over. It will help distribute the workload and protect your back.

Tip #3: Take breaks, delegate & switch it up

Cleaning can be quite the workout, it's important to give your body the breaks and time to recover. You know what's best for your body so switch up the tasks to give different muscle groups a chance to rest. Don’t feel like there is a rush to get the cleaning. Break it up!

How to deal with the pain if it occurs:

Stop cleaning and rest

Take a break from cleaning as soon as you feel any pain - don't continue going if you're feeling sore or achy. You can also switch to a different task or activity that doesn't involve the muscles or body parts you were using.

Get in touch with a health professional as soon as you can

If you're experiencing back or neck pain after cleaning, reach out to your doctor/physio/chiro. While some instances of back pain go away on their own, it might be a sign of an underlying issue that requires treatment. We offer a free consultation where you can get in touch with one of our practitioners to see how they can help you!

Whether you're new to exercise or looking for a way to specifically tackle back pain, we've got you covered. Exercise #1 - Segmented Cat-Cow For this exercise, you'll need a thin elastic band.
