Back to School Tips for Parents

With the school year beginning, it's not just the kids who need to prepare; parents play a crucial role in ensuring a smooth transition back to school. In this blog post, we'll explore how parents can support their children's return to school and maintain their health and well-being!

Tip #1 - Correctly Sitting at a Computer at Home

To ensure comfortable and healthy computer use at home for your child, it's essential to follow some key guidelines. First, position their computer screen at eye level; if they're using a laptop, consider using a riser to achieve this. Make sure your child's back is fully against the backrest of your chair, and their feet should rest flat on the ground. While using the mouse and keyboard, encourage them to keep their elbows close to their body, with forearms lying horizontally. In addition, taking short standing breaks periodically can help prevent back pain and alleviate strain on their body.

Tip #2 - Wearing a Backpack with No Pain

Ensuring your child's backpack is worn correctly is crucial for their comfort and spinal health. The backpack's weight should ideally range from 10% to 20% of your child's body weight. Always make sure both shoulder straps are securely on to evenly distribute this weight. The backpack should sit just below their shoulders and above their hips, with the straps adjusted to keep it close to their body. Opt for a backpack with wide, padded straps, and multiple compartments for better weight distribution and comfort. By following these guidelines, you can help your child avoid potential back and shoulder strain caused by an improperly worn backpack.

Tip #3 - Encouraging Daily Physical Activity

As your child heads back to school, it's crucial to prioritize their physical well-being with these valuable tips for encouraging daily physical activity. Ensure they get at least 60 minutes of exercise daily, but make it enjoyable by encouraging activities that align with their interests, turning exercise into a fun adventure. Combat the effects of prolonged sitting by regularly breaking it up with short activity breaks, promoting healthier habits. Be the inspiration your child needs by being a positive role model; engage in physical activities yourself, and embrace family fitness as a bonding experience. Variety is key, so explore a diverse range of activities and sports together, allowing your child to discover their passions and stay active with enthusiasm.
