Acupuncture can help treat scar tissue - find out how!

Did you know that acupuncture can actually be used to help your skin heal old scar tissue? Our acupuncturists can help fade your old scars and promote new skin growth!

What Causes Scarring?

Scars are our body's way of healing our damaged skin, and can be caused by infections, injury, surgeries, and many more reasons. Scars are made of fibrous tissue and can look different for everyone. Keloid scars are a common type of scar, but other scar types such as atrophic scars (from acne), hypertrophic scars, and contracture scars are common as well.

Acupuncture for Getting Rid of Scars

Acupuncture has been found to effectively dissolve scar tissue by reducing inflammation and calming nerve receptors. Through the precise insertion of fine needles into the skin, acupuncture creates micro-abrasions, prompting the body's natural healing mechanisms.

Acupuncture targets nociceptors and mechanoreceptors—nerve receptors responsible for detecting and transmitting skin damage signals to the central nervous system. When these receptors are damaged, they may misfire, triggering an exaggerated inflammatory response beneath the skin's surface. This heightened inflammation can exacerbate discomfort and hinder the healing process. Acupuncture works by reducing inflammation and promoting tissue repair in affected areas

Acupuncture Can Treat Pain Caused by Scar Tissue

Acupuncture is also known to help with chronic or acute pain due to it's pain-relieving properties. It does this by stimulating the production of serotonin and endorphins in the brain, which control our pain regulation and can affect our moods.

Studies have found that acupuncture can significantly alleviate pain by enhancing the brain's pain-relieving mechanisms and promoting a sense of well-being. By reducing inflammation and enhancing blood flow to injured tissues, acupuncture helps alleviate the discomfort associated with scar tissue, restoring skin flexibility and relieving itching and inflammation.

Is Acupuncture right for you?

Acupuncture is a safe & effective treatment approach that can be used for a variety of issues. It can be done as a standalone treatment or in combination with other therapies, such as massage therapy. It is commonly used for chronic issues, such as headaches, menstrual cramps, joint pain, sciatica, and more.  It can also be used for acute issues, such as injuries, tendinitis or tendinopathy, etc.
