What causes foot pain?
Foot pain is something that many people struggle with at some point in their lives. Whether it’s due to injury, overuse, or a chronic condition, the discomfort can range from mild irritation to severe, debilitating pain. Some common causes of foot pain include:
Foot pain can feel different depending where it is on your foot. For instance, plantar fasciitis usually causes pain in your heels and arches and is worst when you wake up in the morning. Fallen arches or flat feet occur when the arches of your feet flatten, and is felt when standing or walking.
How can we help?
Our expert chiropractors are familiar with a variety of foot conditions and can diagnose and treat most causes of foot pain. When you first come into the clinic, you'll have an initial assessment with one of our chiropractors who will perform various assessments to determine the root cause of your issue. They will then create a treatment plan, that will help with pain relief, managing symptoms, and treating the condition you are experiencing. They may also recommend custom orthotics which help alleviate foot pain.
What are custom foot orthotics?
Orthotics are insoles or inserts placed inside shoes to correct foot problems, enhance foot function, and alleviate pain. While over-the-counter insoles can offer some relief, custom orthotics are specifically tailored to your feet. They are custom made for your foot’s structure, ensuring that the orthotic provides a precise fit and personalized support. Only trained healthcare professionals can assess your feet and create a custom orthotic, which can help target particular foot issues (rather than generic over the counter inserts that may not work for you).
How do custom orthotics work?
Depending on your particular issue, custom orthotics may benefit you in different ways. One significant cause of foot pain is improper alignment. Many people have issues like flat feet, high arches, or abnormal walking patterns (pronation or supination), which can lead to stress on certain areas of the foot and body. Custom orthotics can address these issues by redistributing pressure more evenly across the foot, helping to align the joints, and improving posture. By realigning the foot and lower body, custom orthotics reduce strain on muscles, tendons, and ligaments that may otherwise cause pain.
In cases of plantar fasciitis, Custom orthotics can provide the arch support needed to reduce strain on the plantar fascia, promote proper foot mechanics, and absorb shock, all of which contribute to pain relief.
What does the process look like?
When you first come in for your 30-minute orthotics assessment, our chiropractor will explain the entire process of receiving the orthotics. We start by doing a full 3D scan of your foot, so we can design an orthotic molded exactly for your foot. Then, we go through all the various customizable options with you. You'll be able to pick the colour, thickness, material, and special features of your orthotics. Our chiropractor will help answer any questions you may have and will be there to guide you through the entire process! Once your orthotics are ready, we'll give you a call and you can pick them up from the clinic. The chiropractor will be there at your pick-up to answer questions and ensure your satisfaction!
Are orthotics covered by insurance?
Many insurance providers will cover orthotics if you have a prescription from your doctor. We will provide all necessary documents that are required by insurance companies. However, please consult your insurance policy and contact your insurance provider regarding their coverage of orthotics. We are here to help answer any questions if they arise!
